Ford Transit Custom Conversion
If you’re considering converting your Ford Transit Custom into a campervan, you’ve come to the right place. In this series, we’ll take you step-by-step through the entire process, from gutting the interior to adding all the features that will make this van our home on wheels.
First, let’s take a look at what’s involved in the conversion process.
There are three main stages:
1) Gutting the interior
2) adding Lift Up Roof
3) Sound Deadening, insulation and lining the walls
4) Adding the finished floor
5) Fitting the rock and roll bed
6)building and installing the furniture
7) installing the electrics
8) Take the van for a test run
Each stage has its own challenges, but overall, the conversion process is not as difficult as you might think. In this series, we’ll take you through each step of the process, so you can see exactly what’s involved.
So, let’s get started with Stage 1: Gutting the Interior. This is where you’ll remove all the existing furniture and fittings from the van, and start to prepare the interior for conversion.
Gutting the interior
Firstly, I removed all the plywood panels making sure to keep them. These will make excellent template when it comes to carpeting the interior. Then I removed the bulkhead, this was very easy, unscrew the bolts keeping it in place and remove the panel. Then I took up the floor, this was stuck down using double sided tape (very easy to remove)
